Nexus startup Lifaffa received a grant of $7,000 from Süd-Chemie, an innovative, speciality chemicals company with its headquarters in Munich, Germany.

The grant will by Lifaffa to procure new machinery to expand production of its technology to convert plastic bags into plastic fabric. Its founder, Kanika Ahuja, said that Lifaffa will work with a cluster of rag pickers and train them about the kinds of plastic to collect and how to treat and process them. Once the collected plastic is transformed into fabric, Lifaffa will work with a group of 25 Afghan refugee women called Akseer to turn the fabric into premium fashion bags and scarves.
